About My Work

My Background

I am an artist and working cowgirl.  I have owned and worked with horses for 51 years.  I know and love my subject matter.  Every day I am aware of how horses move, how they are put together, how their footwork and legs are influenced by their gaits, and how the horse's tack and saddle should look and fit.  I starting painting western art 40 years ago, doing current works of the western life style I was surrounded by, and historical western art paintings. I  also attended workshops with the Cowboy Artists of America, and have been fortunate to have studied with some of the greatest names in the world of western art and portraiture.

My Medium

I have used the acrylic medium since the beinning of my career, and then branched out to oils when I was in my twenties.  I decide which medium to use on a certain painting depending on the subject matter, and the mood

that I want to portray.   However, I find that unless I take note of which medium I painted a canvas in, it is hard to discern which I've used....

My Inspiration

To say that the 'horse' has been my greatest single influence, is probably an understatement....my husband introduced me to ranching and cattle work, and being an avid horseman himself, I'm tied to the west in ways that I never imagined possible.  I love the way that the sunlight strikes a mountain,

a rock, an animal, and brings character to a face....
